New Orleans Colors.
There are Mardi Gras colors all around the NO. The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. These colors are said to have been chosen by Grand Duke Alexis Alexandrovitch Romanoff of Russia during a visit to New Orleans in 1872. This doctrine was reaffirmed in 1892, when the Rex Parade theme "Symbolism of Colors" gave the colors their meanings: purple - justice, gold - power, green - faith. Via WikipediaNew Orleans Hugs.
"Way down yonder in New Orleans
In the land of dreamy scenes
There's a garden of Eden
That's what I mean,
Creole babies with flashing eyes
Softly whisper with tender sighs— Stop!
Oh! won't you give your lady fair a little smile, Stop!
You bet your life you'll linger there— a little while
There is heaven right here on earth
With those beautiful queens,
Way down yonder in New Orleans.
They've got angels right here on earth
Wearing little blue jeans,
Way down yonder in New Orleans"
music by John Turner Layton, Jr. and lyrics by Henry Creamer
