Meet Kajika.

Kajika was brought to Carolina Raptor Center in 2007 as an orphan. He had fallen from his nest, breaking bones in his right wing. Unfortunately, his injuries did not heal well enough for him to be able to fly. His name comes from the Native American culture and means "walks without sound," referring to owls' ability to fly silently. Kajika is a member of our education team and travels to schools all across the Carolinas.

I adopted Kajika today and you can do that too. Make a great gift to yourself or your friends and family: support this wonderful Raptor Center.

So this is Christmas...

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so this is Christmas.
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones.
The old and the young.
A very merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear.

-John Lennon

More Winter, Lunar Eclipse and Winter Solstice.

A total eclipse of the moon will be visible during the early morning Tuesday (Michigan). The moon will start to go into eclipse at 12:27 a.m., and will start the total eclipse at 2:40 a.m. The greatest eclipse will be at 3:17 a.m. and the total eclipse will end at 3:53 a.m. The eclipse ends at 6:06 a.m. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth blocks the sun's rays from the face of the moon. The moon is then fully in the shadow cast in space by the Earth. The winter solstice, which occurs afterward, is the time when the sun reaches its lowest point in the northern sky. The day of the solstice is essentially the shortest of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
