This beautiful frog lives in my garden. I cannot decide
is it Northern Leopard Frog or Pickerel Frog,
they are very similar species. The book says that Pickerel Frog
is generally uncommon but can be locally common in
ideal habitat. These frogs are sensitive to changes in water quality
and disappear from polluted water.

Ferry.

After Bellevue show we made a short trip to Olympic National Park. We took ferry from Edmonds to Kingston and then drove to Hoh Rain Forest through Port Angeles and Forks. This forest is magical, it reminds me forests from Russian Fairy tales where Baba Yaga lives. Many of the big trees are over 2 hundred feet tall, their tops are in an upper atmosphere . Unlike tropical rain forest this forest is coniferous: Sitka spruce with sharp needles , Western hemlock with drooping top, Douglas-fir with thick deeply furrowed bark. Lush beards of hanging mosses are attached to boughs but feed only on air and light.

The temperate rain forest is dominated by Sitka spruce.

High rainfall, fog and ocean moderated temperatures
create optimum growing conditions for these monarchs.
This is one of the largest Sitka spruce in USA:
height over 270 feet, diameter over 12.5 feet, age over 500 years.

Magic Gardens of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is a folk art environment, gallery space, and nonprofit organization that showcases the work of mosaicist Isaiah Zagar. Located at the site of Zagar's largest public mosaic installation, the Magic Gardens includes a fully mosaiced indoor gallery and a massive outdoor labyrinthine mosaic sculpture. The installation, primarily consisting of found objects and contributions from the community, covers half a city block with myriads of tile, texture, and color. A walk through the labyrinth will reveal sculptures from Latin America and Asia, bicycle wheels from local South Street shop Via Bicycles, Zagar's hand-made tiles, and mirrors of every shape and size.

We are home after being on the road for all winter and most of March and April. All our birds are back, we even have some new warblers: myrtle, pine, black-white. I hope they will stay around our house. It seems that they like our pond and large old trees. We planted apple tree, pear tree and some bushes today

During art show in Memorial Park, in Houston, I watched pileated woodpecker for 2 days and I made some photos and sketches. As you can see by color of bill/throat line my woodpecker is a girl. She has black line.
Pileated Woodpecker was the inspiration for the famous cartoon character Woody Woodpecker.
"The Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) is a very large North American woodpecker, almost crow sized, inhabiting deciduous forests in eastern North America, the Great Lakes, the boreal forests of Canada, and parts of the Pacific coast. It is also the largest woodpecker in America.

Adults (40–49 cm long, 250–350 g mass) are mainly black with a red crest and a white line down the sides of the throat. They show white on the wings in flight. Adult males have a red line from the bill to the throat, in adult females these are black. The only North American birds of similar plumage and size are the Ivory-billed Woodpecker of the Southeastern United States and Cuba, and the related Imperial Woodpecker of Mexico. However, unlike the Pileated, both of those species are extremely rare, if not extinct. Most reports of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker are believed to be erroneous reports of the far more common Pileated.[2] The call is a wild laugh, similar to the Northern Flicker. Its drumming can be very loud, often sounding like someone striking a tree with a hammer. This bird favors mature forests, but has adapted to use second-growth stands and heavily wooded parks as well". Via Wikipedia
